Abstract

During the course of investigations on the swim bladder of teleostean fishes, the swim bladders of clupeoid genera commonly found in India (Sardinella, Thrissocles, Ilisha and Pellona) were observed to possess a well-developed posterior mechanism communicating with the exterior. The present paper is an attempt to elucidate the aspects of this complex modification in Ilisha indica (Swainson). HISTORICAL RESUMJE
