Abstract

AbstractPurpose: To analyze existing approaches to the personal information culture in Russian scientific research and to compare concept definitions with related foreign concepts of “information literacy”. Methodology: When studying information culture, domestic authors are inclined either to a cultural approach (it determines human culture creation in the modern information society), or information (information activity methods and skills), or complex one, including cultural and information components. Foreign researchers focus their attention on the term “information literacy”, which is appropriate to the concept of information culture and is understood as the ability to recognize information needs and possess skills to satisfy them effectively. Findings: Authors carry out a systematic analysis of the personal information culture, provide a systematization of existing approaches to the information culture in the works of domestic scientists, and present a comparative description of concepts in foreign scientific papers. Originality/value: In the paper, a study of personal information culture is carried out; its relevance for the successful personal life in the modern society at the information stage of its development is indicated. In conditions of IT penetration in all spheres of human activity and digital information space creation, person's informational preparation for life in the information environment becomes an important condition for both the quality of services provided to the population and the quality of benefits from services received.
