Abstract

Experiments with 186W on the neutron-electron interaction by a diffraction method are described as well as a transmission experiment on the determination of the dependence of the total neutron cross section of Bi on neutron energy from 1 to 90 eV. The root mean square charge radius of the neutron was obtained to be |〈r in 2〉 n | 1 2 = 0.11 ± 0.02 fm (〈r in 2〉 n < 0) . The electrical polarizability of the neutron has also been estimated to be α n < × 10 −3 fm 3 at a 90% confidence level.
