Abstract
Observations by transmission electron microscopy on the migration of interphase boundaries between α-brass (f.c.c.-structure) and β-brass (b.c.c.-structure) are reported. The observations suggest that interphase boundary migration may occur by the movement of steps with a height of about 20–100 A along the plane of the boundary. The mechanism may be understood in terms of the different atomic structure of the steps and the segments of the boundaries between them.
