Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to construct an example which shows that a key theorem in Poimenidou (J. Algebra151 (1992), 192-217) is false, thereby invalidating the main result of that paper. Thus the question remains open as to whether every element of Bπ(G), where π is a set of prime numbers and G is a finite π-separable group, has a subnormally Fong character associated with it.
