Abstract

The general constitutive equations developed in Part I ∗ are simplified for the special cases of rigid bodies, electroelasticity and magnetoelasticity. Various order approximate constitutive equations are obtained for small vector and tensor fields which include many hitherto known and unknown cross effects. Linear equations, second degree equations, equations linear in vector fields, and equations linear in deformation are presented. In Section 5 a summary of basic equations is presented and employed to solve three problems: Simple shear of an infinite, dielectric slab the faces of which are maintained at different temperatures and potentials; Torsion of an incompressible, circular, conducting cylinder with axial electric field; and Response of a rigid, annular, dielectric cylinder to an axial magnetic field and radial electric field.
