Abstract

Sufficient conditions for the stability of solutions of the equation a(t) x ̈ + b(t) x ̇ + c(t)f(x) = 0 are deduced. These conditions depend on coefficient ratios a c and b c as well as on initial conditions. As an example the pendulum of variable length is discussed.
