Abstract

The nitrate and chloride complexes of Pu/sup 4+/ were studied in an acid perchlorate medium of ionic strength 1 = 4M at a temperature of 20 deg C by using the cation-exchanger method of Fronaeus. The calculation method was extended to systems of the type M/sup 4+/-A-, where the central ion, the first, second, and third complexes can be sorbed on the ion exchanger. The complexity constants obtained for the nitrate system were beta /sub 1/ = 5.5 plus or minus 0.2 M/ sup -1/; beta /sub 1/ = 23.5 plus or minus 1 M/sup -2/ s, and beta /sub 3/ = 15 plus or minus 10 M/sup -3/ and, for the chioride system, beta /sub 1/ = 1.4 plus or minus 0.2 M/sup -/ s/sup 1/ beta /sub 2/ = 1.2 M/sup -2/, and beta / sub 3/ = 0.1 plus or minus 0.1 M/sup -3/.
