Abstract The specific frequencies of globular clusters, S, defined as their number per unit of galaxy luminosity, normalized to Mν = -15, are recalculated for the spheroidal (r1/4) components of the Galaxy and M31, respectively 4.9±0.8 and 4.7±1.0. Both are close to the mean value for normal elliptical galaxies in small groups (4.7±0.7), previously calculated on the distance scale which minimizes the dispersion among the latter (de Vaucouleurs).
