Abstract

It is shown that the nocturnal stable boundary layer endeavours to follow the land contours over a topographically complex urban terrain, with some increase in depth above the city centre of Johannesburg. Furthermore, the temperature difference across the SBL has been found to be greater in a valley location than on a ridge.
