Abstract

Recent papers such as “Outcomes of arterial graft for the reconstruction of military lower extremity arterial injuries” by Dr. Laverty et al. have reminded us of the strong military vascular surgery foundation established by Retired U.S. Army Colonel Norman M. Rich, MD, FACS, DMCC, MC.1 Col Rich's medical career began at Stanford University. He graduated from surgical residency at Letterman General Hospital. Directly following his graduation, he was assigned to the second Mobile Army Surgical Hospital as chief of surgery during a tour of duty in An Khe, Vietnam from 1965 to 1966.
