Abstract

A qualitative comparison is made between the results of an experimental investigation of the separation of a supersonic flow from the corner of a base and a recently presented solution for the separation of a Stokes-type flow in a similar situation. The form of the flows in the two situations is shown to be remarkably similar and the similarity appears to explain phenomena in the experimental results not explained by the currently accepted theories of supersonic base flow.
