On the sensitivity of the coefficients of Padé approximants with respect to their defining power series coefficients

Abstract

Estimates are made of the effect of perturbations of the power series coefficients on the coefficients of corresponding Padé approximants. The notorious ill conditioning of the Padé equations in certain “ideal” cases is shown to be a symptom of an inherently ill conditioned problem.
