Abstract

A preliminary analysis of the question about selection of a coordinate system for studies of high latitude processes in the Earth's magnetosphere is given. Calculations of magnetic flux tube volumes, W, based on the empirical Tsyganenko (1987) model were made for geomagnetic latitudes exceeding 50°, with different K p-values. The equal volume magnetic flux tube isolines and angle coordinate isolines were mapped in the dipole geomagnetic coordinate system. The changes of isoline shapes were considered corresponding with changes of the geomagnetic disturbance level.
