Abstract

According to the classical propagation model, the Sagnac effect is due to the movement of receiver during wave propagation. Based on this, we derive the GPS (global positioning system) Sagnac pseudorange correction, the Sagnac effect in interferometry, and the Doppler frequency shift. Then, we examine these formulas with the propagation experiments associated with the Sagnac effect, particularly the reference frame of the receiver velocity and the influences of earth's rotational and orbital motions. Thereby, it is found that the propagation of electromagnetic wave in these experiments is in accord with the classical model with the propagation frame being stationary in an ECI (earth-centered inertial) frame.
