Abstract

The reaction NH 2 + O 3 was studied by flash photolysis of NH 3 + O 3 (λ > 250 nm) using intracavity laser spectroscopy. This reaction governs NH 2 decay at low ozone pressures ( PO 3 < 0.5 Torr) and its rate constant is k 1 = (1.2 ± 0.3) × 10 −13 cm 3/ s At P O 3 > 0.5 Torr,NH 2 decay is due to the following mechanism: NH 2 + O 3 → NH 2O+O 2 (1), NH 2O+ O 3 → NH 2 + 2O 2 (8),NH 2O → NHOH (10) with k 8 = (2.0 ± 1.5) × 10 −14 cm 3/ s. k 10 = (1.3 = 0.1) × 10 3 s −1.
