Abstract

The Raman spectra of aqueous solutions of 5′-mononucleotides derived from adenine, uracil, guanine and cytosine have been examined in the 1150-950 cm −1 spectral region. The origin of some common bands, not previously reported, has been discussed by taking into account isotopic frequency shifts, depolarization ratios, normal coordinate calculations, Raman spectra of these nucleobases as well as those of D-ribose and D-ribose 5-phosphate.
