Abstract

The article examines the changing role of Iran in the global oil market after the overthrow of the democratically elected government of M. Mosaddegh and the formation of the International Oil Consortium. The role of oil revenues in the process of Iran's transformation into a regional leader and an active participant in OPEC is revealed. The Shah's policy aimed at reducing the role of the International Oil Consortium and establishing new rules for the activities of Western oil companies in Iran is analyzed.
