Abstract

Calculations made under extremely pessimistic conditions for the allowable impurity of Hg199 in pile-produced Hg198, to be used as a possible primary standard of length, show that the 99.6% or better Hg198 produced in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory graphite reactor satisfactorily meets these rigid design criteria.
