Abstract

The properties and fracture behavior of micro-alloyed and copper-bearing hot-rolled steels have been studied. It was found that copper precipitation occurred in both the ferritic and the cementite lamellae of the pearlite and thus seemed to have influenced the overall properties of the pearlite microstructure of the steels. A comparison of VC and ε-Cu precipitation observed in the pearlite microstructure is presented. The effect of VC and copper precipitation on microcracking of the cementite lamellae of the pearlite is also discussed.
