Abstract

By using preionization techniques the linear flashlamps can produce reliable fast discharges for the pumping of high power dye lasers. The choice between the two known preionization modes — DC simmer or prepulse technique — is determined by the bore diameter and the gas filling pressure of the lamps. The parameters for an efficient preionization are investigated for two flashlamps of 7 and 13 mm arc diameter respectively.
