Abstract

Abstract The thrust produced by a marine propeller operating in a spatially non-homogeneous flow is reduced by inhomogenities depending on the angular co-ordinate. The loss of efficiency caused by this reduction of thrust is to a certain extent compensated by increasing the design thrust, a procedure called “unsteady wake adaption”. Numerical calculations show improvements of propeller efficiency which are dependent on the degree of inhomogenity of the flow fielf.
