H. Abstract The propagation of acoustic and radiative waves in a reacting fluid with a quasi-static radiation field assumed to have no dynamical effects is investigated analytically in the Eddington approximation. Expressions for the phase speeds and characteristic scale lengths of damping and amplification are derived. Numerical results for dissociating hydrogen gas are presented.
