Abstract

Two-body reactions involving the production of vector mesons and/or baryonic resonances in pseudoscalar meson-nucleon collisions are considered within the framework of the peripheral model. General results are obtained for the production momentum transfer distributions and resonance decay correlations on the assumption of pseudoscalar and vector-meson exchange. Drastic form factors are needed to bring the cross-sections of the one-meson-exchange model into agreement with experiment, independent of the type of exchange. A detailed. comparison between the theory and experiment is made for the K+p reactions (KN → K*N, KN → KN* and KN → K*N*) at 1.96 and 3.0 Ge V/c.
