Abstract

The microstructure of Nd-Fe-B alloys containing 1.6 wt% Nb was examined by metallographic and electron-optical methods. It was found that a ternary intermetallic phase FeNbB was formed as a primary crystallization product in the ingot and as fine precipitates distributed inhomogeneously inside the grains of Nd 2Fe 14B after heat treatments at lower temperatures.
