Abstract

Individual nuclei may remain polarized for long times in fusion reactor plasmas. The ensemble of nucleiu is depolarized by precession of the spins in inhomogeneous fields. Reversible mixing may be expected to occur rapidly with respect to the fusion-time scale. Irreversible mixing can be shown to occur on times of the order of fusion reaction time due to additional perturbations of the particle orbit.
