Abstract

The results of P-wave velocity measurements in the basement and sedimentary cover rocks of the submarine Vityaz Ridge and surrounding morphostructures, used for age correlation of the geological complexes, are presented. The numerical values of the seismoacoustic parameter were obtained under laboratory conditions by direct measurements of the samples collected in the area of the Central Kuril Islands. In addition, the data derived from the seismic methods in the studied region in expeditions of previous years were used. The obtained results suggest that the sedimentary cover of the Kuril Basin is of the Paleocene or Eocene age, and the interarc basin is dated as the Paleocene.
