Abstract
Unlike the deterministic case for which the Wigner-Ville (WV) distribution is known to be positive for only a very restricted class of time-varying signals, we show that, in the random case, the WV spectrum is in fact positive for a great number of nonstationary processes. Moreover, it is pointed out that positivity is met, in particular, for a fairly general class including that for which classical estimation procedures of the WV spectrum are legitimate and have been developed.
