Abstract
The plastic deformation of semi-crystalline polymers containing needle crystals has been investigated. Stress-strain curves exhibit two linear regions, the elastic (Hookeian) range and a second linear plastic part. The onset of the plastic part depends on pre-straining and the slopeα = dσ/de of the plastic part is dependent on the morphology of the samples. An interpretation is given in terms of the shear-lag theory of discontinuous uniaxially oriented fibres.
