Abstract
Results are presented from an analysis of the plane-strain compression of a rigid-plastic non-hardening material between flat platens, with frictional boundary conditions approximating to those in existence when a viscous lubricant is entrapped on the specimen-platen interface. The results are used to show the inadequacy of the mean coefficient of friction, as a boundary condition, in the analysis of fluid-lubricated metalworking processes.
