Abstract
In this paper, the phase center of linear phased-arrays is investigated. A far-field formulation is applied to evaluate the phase center location for different beam scan angles and under multiple element-failure conditions. The phase center is found to be scan invariant and lies at the geometric center of the array when all elements are functional and under a symmetric amplitude excitation. When one or more elements fail, the phase center follows a centroid function given by the element locations weighted by the element amplitude excitations. This work has applications in phased arrays used for feeding reflector antennas for multiple-beam systems.
