Abstract

We illustrate the relevance of groups of transformations, which qualify as symmetries for the controlled dynamics, in the pH regulation problem for a two species continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR) system. The existence of a state space symmetry allows to simplify the control design to regulating just one product concentration, while evading well known singularities. A similar property is also established for a set of invariant stabilization errors yielding a different controller design option.
