Abstract

ABSTRACTThis paper investigates the performance of amplify‐and‐forward protocol with selection combining of , and best relays. The closed‐form expressions for the symbol error rate, outage probability and channel capacity are derived. Analysis reveals that the diversity‐multiplexing trade‐off is (R − i1 + 2)[1 − r(1 + K)], where r is the multiplexing gain and R is the total number of relays. Investigation also shows that the fixed‐gain relaying provides the same diversity gain with the variable‐gain relaying. Simulation and numerical results substantiate the tightness of derived expressions and the accuracy of our theoretical analysis. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
