Abstract

An exact multiple-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann (MRT-LB) algorithm without any assumptions or approximations is raised for solving time-dependent radiative transfer problems (RTPs). The macroscopic radiative transfer equation (RTE) is exactly recovered from the mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE). The proposed MRT-LB algorithm is utilized to obtain the time-dependent radiation distribution with strong variations. Analysis of its numerical performance, including the accuracy and convergence order, is carried out. Results demonstrate that the present MRT-LB is accurate for solving the RTE, with a convergence order of two. The MRT-LB has a good ability to capture the time-dependent properties, including the radiation intensity, radiative heat flux, as well as wavefront, for the radiation propagation problems.
