Abstract

Abstract Due to the dipolar repulsion interaction, adsorbed alkali atoms on transition metals are not thermally stable at the working temperature of some catalysts. It is shown that the coadsorption of oxygen and alkali atoms appreciably increases the desorption energy of the alkali adlayer which becomes thermally stabilized, in qualitative agreement with previously published experimental data.
