Abstract
Geary and Flinn offer an intriguing perspective on the involvement of fathers in parenting that explains why human fathers, nearly alone among mammals, actively participate in their children's upbringing. Their model may enhance the contemporary study of fatherhood by highlighting the role of environmental and cultural forces on parenting, but important questions regarding the links between marriage and parenting need to be addressed to understand the wide variation in fathers' involvement in childrearing.
