Abstract

Submillimeter photometry of embedded sources in the nearby Taurus-Auriga molecular cloud is presented. It is found that, for all sources in the sample, the submillimeter emission contributes 5% or less to the total source luminosity, confirming the relatively «low» luminosity (0.46 L ⊙ ≤ L ⊙ ≤ 4.2 L ⊙ ) of this class of objects as previously pointed out by Kenyon and coworkers (1990, AJ, 99). From the observed 800 μm fluxes, beam-averaged values of the visual extinction are estimated to be in the range 40 < A V < 500
