Abstract

The reaction of oxygen atoms with formaldehyde was studied. Oxygen atoms were produced by UV-laser photolysis of NO 2, and CO 2 reaction products were detected by time-resolved infrared diode laser absorption. Analysis of the data combined with numerical kinetics modeling indicate that CO 2 is formed primarily or exclusively by a secondary reaction of oxygen atoms with HCO radicals. An upper limit of 0.05 is determined for the CO 2 branching channel in the title reaction.
