Abstract

Thin films of CoPt were obtained by the method of r.f. sputtering. These films, as deposited, are in a completely atomically disordered state. Subjected to adequate thermal treatments, the CoPt thin films obtained may be totally atomically ordered or completely atomically disordered. The behaviour of these films is compared with that of Ni 3Mn thin films, concerning certain aspects of the atomic order and magnetic order phenomena. The differences in behaviour are due to the influence of the magnetic order on the atomic ordering process.
