Abstract

This paper is concerned with the design of linear antenna array (LAA) with low Peak Side lobe level (PSLL) with certain desired First Null Beamwidth (FNBW). In addition to that, LAA design with lower Dynamic Range Ratio (DRR) will be proposed. Antenna array synthesis is one of the challenging optimization problems with lack of closed formula solutions which encouraged the use of evolutionary algorithms (EAs) over past few decades. In this work, a class of six EAs will be used to assess their performance on a benchmark of problems. This class of algorithms consists of Biogeography-Based Optimization (BBO), Cultural Algorithm (CA), Covariance Matrix Adaptation-Evolution Strategy (CMA-ES), and one variant of each of Genetic Algorithms (GA), Differential Evolution (DE) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). These algorithms will be used to solve a benchmark of three antenna array synthesis problems and their performance and statistical significance will be compared.
