Abstract
Abstract The effects of pressure on the operation of the electrical aerosol analyzer are evaluated. If the instrument is operated at reduced pressure using the same mass flowrates as at sea level, the particle size corresponding to a given collector rod voltage is significantly smaller than at sea level. This results in erroneously high values of particle size and volume for a size distribution. If the volume flowrates are held constant, the effects of pressure are much smaller and in the opposite direction. Correction factors to compensate for these effects are derived, and the limits of their applicability are discussed.
