On the occurrence of linearly dependent eigenvectors in nonclassical transport calculations

Abstract

Described here is the occurrence of linearly dependent eigenvectors in the analytical solution of the spectral approximation of the nonclassical transport equation in the discrete ordinates (SN) formulation. To our knowledge, this characteristic does not arise in the analytical solution of the classical SN transport equations. Therefore, classical deterministic analytically-based methods need to be modified when applied to nonclassical transport calculations in order to address this issue.
