Abstract
An occurrence of celestine in the Lower Purbeck Beds at Durlston Head is described and is shown to be of syngenetic origin. Deposition probably took place near the margin of a basin of evaporite deposits into which strontium solutions were introduced. At a later date the celestine has been involved both in the brecciation that formed the Broken Beds and in complex local faulting.
