Abstract

1H and 31P NMR parameters for cis-[PtX 2L 2] and [PtXL 3] + complexes in which L is PC 6 F 5(CH 3) 2 and X = a range of anionic ligands, together with crystal structure analyses of cis-[PtX 2L 2], (I, X = Cl; II, X = CF 3) and [Pt(CH 3)L 3] [PF 6] (III), suggest that electron-withdrawal by C 6 F 5 has only a limited effect on the metalligand bonding and that the trans-influences of CH - 3 and CF - 3 on PtP bonds are of similar magnitude. The dependence of 19F NMR chemical shifts and coupling constants on the nature of the PxX bonding is also described.
