Abstract The combination of high-resolution spectra and model stellar atmospheres is applied to eight narrow-lined main-sequence stars in NGC 752. This method of deducing directly the metallicity and the effective temperatures of the cluster stars yields (Fe/H)cluster of -0.09 +/-0.05, which is derived from the equivalent widths of up to four weak Fe II lines in each of the eight cluster spectra and in the solar spectrum. This purely spectroscopic method of determining the metallicity and the various temperatures is advantageous in that the results are effectively independent of uncertainties in the distance, the reddening, and the intrinsic colors of the cluster stars.
