Abstract

We explain the extremely large effective masses of f electrons of heavy fermion systems, from the values of the bandwidths of the f electrons and the s conduction electrons obtained by the band calculation. The interaction of f electrons intermediated by the s conduction electrons of a lighter mass is adopted to make the attractive interaction appear for superconductivity, and the partial wave decomposition of the interaction including the screened Coulomb repulsion between f electrons is shown to explain the predominance of s or p wave superconductivity depending on the ratio of fermi wave vectors of the f and the s electrons.
