Abstract

A special kind of shaft damage occurring nearby the interface of alluvia and bed rock has been found recently in some coal mines in Xuhuai area, southeast China. The authors discuss the mechanism of such a kind of damage, pointing out that it has been caused by the Negative Friction due to subsidence of the nearby shaft alluvia. A simplified mechanical model has been studied to verify the damage mechanism with elastic Finite Element Method.
