Abstract

Different modes of transition from dropwise to film condensation were investigated analytically and experimentally. Two types of transition modes, the continuous and jump modes, were observed. The dominant mechanism of heat transfer was discussed and the controlling factors were analyzed. A close agreement between the measurement and the analysis was obtained. It was confirmed that the modes of transition were determined by the gradient of the condensation curve on the bilogarithmic coordinates and by the ratio of the vapor-side heat transfer coefficient to the overall cooling-side conductance.
