Abstract

Proton-induced emission of bound electrons from solid-state targets has been measured in the range of the BEA peak. It is shown that the electron emission cross section can be factorised mainly into Rutherford scattering cross section and Compton profile of the target electrons. Good agreement is obtained between measured and calculated profiles of carbon and aluminium. The presented method is relatively insensitive to multiple scattering, in contrast to inelastic electron scattering techniques.
