Abstract

Some consequences of gauge invariance are explored on the assumption that no experimentel measurement determines the phase of mass of an elementary particle. If the mass has a phase factor the phase could be removed by an adequate gauge transformation without any alteration in the physical situation. It is concluded that the principle of mass gauge invariance can be complementary to partial invariance. (W.D.M.)
